The picture doesn't do this any justice at all, the pattern & colours really are striking. Natural edge with bark retained all round the dark patch is also bark.

Turned from a slice cut from the main trunk & retaining the natural edge contours of the trunk & showing the growth rings. This one also has the bark retained around the edge.

Spalted Beech Bowls
Spalting is the pattern created by a fungus from the forest floor that attacks a dying tree, once dry the fungus dies but the pattern & colours remain permanent.
